Australia’s Future Music Festival is set to be a crazy one this year, with five dates planned across 5 cities. The biggest touring festival of the Australian summer calendar, Future Music Fest is an annual tour de force of good times, massive parties, and the hottest names in music.
In 2015, the festival kicks off at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney before traveling to the Arena Joondalup in Perth, the Brisbane Showgrounds in Brisbane, Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, and ending at the Adelaide Showgrounds in Adelaide. All of this spanning over two weekends in February and March. With Drake headlining alongside Avicii and The Prodigy, the lineup looks heavily electronic with a mix of hip hop and the occasional indie/dance crossover artist. Other acts to catch this year include Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Nero, 2 Chainz and Cocoon presents Sven Vath.
Drake, who’s first time in Australia will be this years FMF, will be coming to town with his full band set up. After the huge success of his albums Thank Me Later, Take Care and Nothing Was The Same, fans antcipate an amazing show for his new album Hold On, We’re Going Home.
Festivalgoers should also expect monster shows by The Prodigy, who has played FMF before, and Die Antwoord who will be making their festival debut. It was recently announced that Knife Party would join Drake and Avicci on the main stage, showcasing their debut record, Abandon Ship.
Since 2008 the festival has hosted epic concerts accompanied by a barrage of neon colors and bright lights. Past acts have included Macklemore, Deadmau5, Phoenix, Chase and Status, and Kaskade, and the fest is becoming known for being the place for Australians to let loose and party hard during the summer.
This year, the festival has invested more than ever in production locking in famous designer James Klein (yeah, the one responsible for UMF Miami’s main stage). Festival producers say there will be “state-of-the-art sound, spine-tingling light rigs that’ll explode with pyrotechnic climaxes [and] new audio technologies to hit you in the stomach at every corner of our venues.” Fans should also expect the givens, which are ample toilets and bars (uncharacteristic of a fest this size!) This is going to be one for the books, guys!
