The Gasparilla Music Festival presented by SYKES (“GMF”) has announced Modest Mouse will headline this years festival! Joining Modest Mouse are main-stage performers, Mutemath and The Abyssinians, who join previously announced performers: Gogol Bordello, The Gaslight Anthem, Trampled by Turtles, The Budos Band, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Dumpstaphunk, Hiss Golden Messenger, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Hot 8 Brass Band, Margo & the Pricetags, and Packway Handle Band. Local Florida favorites include The Hip Abduction, Miggs, Selwyn Birchwood, Suenalo, Thomas Wynn & the Believers, RedFeather, Amber Lynn Nicol, UNRB and Mt. Zion Gospel Choir with more acts to be added.
Headliner Modest Mouse will release their new studio album, Strangers to Ourselves, via Epic Records on March 3 just prior to their appearance at GMF making this their first studio album since 2007’s “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.” Modest Mouse gained mainstream attention when their 2004 single, “Float On” became the band’s first #1 song on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart and was nominated for a 2005 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. New Orleans favorite Mutemath, whose sound fuses elements from psychedelia to traditional gospel to modern electronica yet still firmly rooted in New Orleans rhythm and blues, will also be releasing a new recording later this year. While Jamaican roots reggae trio, The Abyssinians, are famous for their close harmonies and promotion of the Rastafari movement within their lyrics. Formed in 1968, the band has gone through a number of lineup changes with the current trio touring since 1997 including dates at Reggae on the River, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and The Bob Marley Day Festival in 1998. The group was also nominated for a 1999 Tamika Award.
GMF, now in its fourth year of showcasing a wide variety of musical acts, incredible local cuisine and unique children’s music exhibits, kicks off the highly anticipated spring break and outdoor music festival season. The Festival promises its most eclectic and impressive musical line-up to date with more acts and local favorites to be announced in the upcoming weeks. GMF is organized by a not for profit corporation and takes place March 7-8 in the unique and picturesque Tampa, FL location of Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Kiley Garden.
With its lineup so far Gasparilla looks like it’s going to be amazing! Tickets are on sale now and tickets are super affordable for such a great lineup. $60 will get you a GA two day pass, while $40 will buy you a Saturday ticket and $30 a Sunday ticket. If VIP is more your style you can pick those tickets up for $150 for a 2 day pass, $100 for a VIP Saturday ticket, and $75 for a VIP Sunday ticket.
