What started on a dance floor in Brooklyn has turned into a sensation no one could predict. At least I didn’t. Brooklyn’s Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) announced their full 8th year lineup yesterday, and it is teeming with talent. Not only does it showcase leaders of the global underground but it shines light on New York’s emerging electronic music artists. The event takes off November 5, packing innovation and good music into 3 days and 8 venues across Williamsburg. This year’s lineup features the likes of MK, Armand Van Helden, Masters of Work, Laidback Luke, b2b Gina Turner, Floating Points, Soul Clap, Snakehips, Daniel Avery, George Fitzgerald, Django Django, and many more. Find the full lineup below, along with other awesome happenings that will occur that weekend.
Since its inception, BEMF aimed to blur genre boundaries and push aside petty battles of underground vs commercial sound. BEMF’s intentions are strictly to let worthy sounds, ideas, and artists be heard throughout NYC. The fest seeks to provide a platform for those in the electronic music industry to discuss challenges they face, ideas, and celebrate its unique artists. The fest has championed diverse artists like Hudson Mohawke, Nicholas Haar, and the Black Madonna well before they burst into popular conscience and exists as a substantial opportunity for developing artists and industry parties alike. Daily panel sessions and fireside chats will be hosted by Vice’s dance music platform, THUMP, and music technology company, Novation.
BEMF isn’t your average fest. Two pre-parties kick off the proceedings on Thursday, November 5th, and it closes with a morning brunch on November 8th. This year, BEMF is bringing back their official aftger-hours programming, starting Saturday at midnight and running through Sunday at sunrise.
