18th Annual Music Midtown Music Festival Is Back

Another powerhouse selection of rock, pop, electronic, and rap is set for the weekend of September 17-18 in Piedmont Park Atlanta, Georgia. The 2016 headliners include The Killers, Twenty One Pilots, Beck, and Deadmau5. Other attractions include a Ferris wheel and plenty of local eateries that offer everything from “gluten-free to vegan to good old-fashioned corn dogs.”

A brief history of Music Midtown for millennials: The festival was conceived by Atlanta-based music promoters Alex Cooley and Peter Conlon in 1994 who sought to create an event similar to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The intent was to present a wide variety of music that both men had come to enjoy during their careers in the music industry. The music festival drew in excess of 300,000 attendees per year during its peak years. During the years that Music Midtown had a three-day run, the event had six main stages.

“This year we are expanding the festival to two full days by moving to Saturday and Sunday,” Live Nation president Peter Conlon said. “This will ensure patrons can enjoy the maximum music, food and fun they can handle. We will also be returning to an initial ticket price of $125 for a 2-Day General admission ticket. This is by far the most affordable festival in the country for this level of talent.”
