CODA, Toronto’s dance music sanctuary and successor to the legendary Footwork, turns 4 this year, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate! If you’re a techno titan or a house head, a visit or two to CODA is a must while in Toronto. Over the past four years, the club has boasted incredible bookings like Dubfire, Tale of Us, Richie Hawtin, Maya Jane Coles, Maceo Plex… we could go on and on – not to mention the local acts who remind us of what a talented city Toronto really is. With an incredible PK sound system and some of the best staff in the city, CODA has all the makings for a dance lover’s perfect night out. By now, we have for sure convinced you to check the space out, so here’s walkthrough of the club and its key spots so you can get the optimal CODA experience – just in time for the birthday beats!

The Disco Ball

If you walk right to the centre of the club, and tilt your head towards the sky, you’ll see the biggest, baddest, disco ball you ever did see, reflecting off the top-notch light work and creating a truly untouchable vibe. Plus, it’s probably the best spot to appreciate the sound system in all its glory – arrive early to secure a twirl under the ball.

The Family Booth

Now, turn around, and you’ll see a giant booth smack dab in the middle of the club. Booths in clubs are usually reserved for bottle service, but not this one – open to all, you can give your dancing feet a rest and catch the action from a comfy spot.

The Dark Corner

If you walk to the front right of the club and up a few steps, there is a corner that somehow manages to evade all light whatsoever. If you feel like being extra dark or need to take a time out, this is the corner for you!

Behind the Booth

Look to the right and you will see the DJ booth – walk around the back and you can take in the club from a totally new perspective. It’s a real treat to be able to see what the DJ sees – without crowding them in the actual booth.

The Stairs

Continue walking around to the other side and you will see a set of steps that lead up to the back bar – this is THE place to dance! You get a sweet view of the crowd, you’re close to a bar – and everyone knows front right is where it’s at.

There you have it! An insider’s guide to getting the bang for your CODA buck. And as with any club, don’t forget to thank the door staff, security and the bartenders – the ones who keep the place running into the night so we can get our groove on.

CODA celebrates it’s four year anniversary on Friday, February 2 with Format:B and Saturday, February 3 with Honey Dijon. Shall we dance?
