The International Music Summit is known as the premier global platform for business, culture and education within the electronic music industry. The 11th edition of IMS Ibiza is returning to the dance capital of the world for a three-day educational and inspirational leadership forum. Just earlier this year, IMS hosted a successful 10th Anniversary event. IMS also announced the key themes for its 11th summit coming up next year on May 23-25th, 2018 at the Hard Rock Hotel. The platform, previously described as “the TED of music conferences,” has been responsible for leading initiatives that have implemented a positive outcome within the electronic music industry. IMS continues to set the agenda for the genre across the world in Europe, North America and Asia.
As IMS is focusing internationally, it will focus on the Middle East, which is a promising new region growing in the genre of electronic music. In this geographical area, spotlights are put on breakthrough talent, in the marketplace and key opportunities within it covering UAE, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.
Wellness Retreat
New for the 2018 is a Wellness retreat that will take place before the main event. The location will be revealed in the upcoming weeks. The electronic music industry is constantly moving at a fast pace involving busy days and late nights. This industry recognizes a demanding lifestyle for players as it puts a toll on the body and mind over time. The new Wellness event will help address this issue within the industry. Specifically aimed for the dance music community, the pre-summit retreat will help industry veterans and newcomers to disconnect from everyday stress and clear their minds. This will set the foundation to create meaningful work and provide tools to maintained a focuses and relax environment. Full details about this event will be announced in January.
Black Coffee
To continue its great support towards international music, IMS Ibiza flies the South African flag with Meet Team Black Coffee. The multi-award winning DJ has had a meteoric rise to fame and just finished his first successful summer residency at Hï Ibiza. From management to agent to Ibiza promoter, IMS will work with Black Coffee and his team to create his own unique, inspiring path to success and his aspiration for the future.
Each year, milestones and achievements are celebrated by labels and artists in the music industry. Next year, 2018 will continue to come with great success as well. First, 25 years of Sonar: Shaping Underground Culture, is known as the world-renowned Barcelona Festival. The festival will discuss its achievements and go in depth about its innovative contribution to the genre of music. Additionally, they will be celebrating 25 years of Positive Records. The pioneering UK major label is known for breaking underground tracks into popular mainstream music. This discussion will also feature a special focus on how the role of the A&R man has evolved in the last 25 years. A&R directors, Jason Ellis, Nick Halkes and Dave Lambert will lead these talks throughout the three-day event.
SheSaid.So.
Unfortunately, sexual harassment is a real and unwelcome problem in many industries. She.Said.So., is an influential network of women in the industry that will talk intended to assess the impact of the issue specifically in electronic music. They also look at the direct root causes and endeavor to reduce its existence within a serious to actionable recommendations.
Health and Wellness
Health and wellness will continue to be a focus with insight into the mental wellbeing of DJS, which is an ignored problem that sadly many artists face throughout the entire genre. IMS Ibiza will ask, is it DJs complaining or real problems? This open mental health discussion will be hosted by the Association for Electronic Music and will offer meaningful advice on how to remain sane yet successful at the same time. Attendees will get the chance to take apart in daily yoga and meditation sessions that will help remind each individual the importance of balance and self care.
Features of the event
The event will continue to support the future of the industry with the return of IMS Visionaries, which has partnered with Mixmag and IMS Accelerator. Mixmag aims to search globally for electronic music’s next generation of influencers and IMS Accelerator is an original program aimed at and focused on supporting the next generation of start-ups.
IMS Ibiza 2018 will also feature discussions hosted by Burn Residency, Kid Talks, SheSaid.So and Young Guns Network. Also, Blockchain, Bots will be featured in discussions on top of the highly anticipated master class with IMA Anthem.
IMS co-founder Ben Turner states: “Health Vs Hedonism was our most popular talk in 2017, and it put us on the path of delivering more in the Wellness area for delegates. It’s a topic that is marrying professionals of all ages and gender, and we’re excited to offer something unique to an industry that is in need of greater advice and direction. It also affects many of the issues in our space, and people’s behavioural patterns around it. We’re also proud to focus on Black Coffee, Sonar and Positiva for their contributions to our world – past, present and future.”
