An Interview with Up-and-Coming Artist Satya

Do you ever wonder if there is any music out there left to discover? Underground music that you wish you knew about? Well, lucky for all of you. I am here bringing you an artist who is fresh. She lights the room with the magic that she produces. Born in Oakland California this 19-year-old is unstoppable. his Independent, on fire human, is named Satya. Her creativity is through the roof and I was lucky enough to be able to drop in to one of her shows here in Los Angeles. I was absolutely blown away along with the rest of the room. The applause was endless and not a single still body in the room. Her voice electrified the mood in that room. Being only 19 of course I had some questions up my sleeve for this power house of an artist.

Satya

What artists inspired you to make music and why? (Any specific things)

Satya: Lauryn Hill, Sade, Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse are just a few of my many inspirations. I’ve been drawn to all of these artists because each one of them are very unique and their lyrics are intimate and relatable. These are also artists I grew up listening to, so they had a big influence on me and my childhood.

Do you personally think a beat or the lyrics make a good song?

Satya: I think that it varies, I don’t think just one or the other is what makes a good song. I think that sometimes a song without lyrics can still hit somebody really deeply. Because I’m a song writer, I find myself drawn to songs with lyrics but I think they go hand in hand.

Was there a certain life experience that made you decide to make music or you just knew you wanted to do it all your life?

Satya: I grew up around a lot of music and it influenced me from a young age. Music has always been a key part of my life, and I feel like I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an artist.

Satya

Who is your biggest supporter in your music?

Satya: My family has always been my biggest supporters in my music career. They always took it very seriously and they respected my passion for music. They went above and beyond to make sure that I had the resources I needed to grow as a musician.

If you could preform one place what would it be? (Music festival, certain concert location etc)

Satya: If I could perform at one venue, it would be at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. Growing up in Oakland, I used to always see some of my biggest idols performing at the Fox Theater. I went to Oakland School of the Arts, which was located right about the Fox Theater and I remember seeing the artists’ tour busses outside and being really inspired to someday play at the Fox Theater.
