NEW ACTS ADDED TO VISUAL ARTS PROGRAMMING
August 2015: Bumbershoot is proud to unveil final pieces of its unique festival programming — the 1 Reel Film Festival and onsite Spectacles, which complete the Visual Arts & Spectacles category. In addition, Kevin Smith and Matt Mira’s podcastTalk Salad & Scrambled Eggs — the duo’s podcast about Frasier — is now coming to the home of Frasier Crane himself, Seattle. Matt and Kev will be providing live audio commentary for two episodes of the series.
Founded in 1995, the 1 Reel Film Festival is a collection of short films noteworthy for the brevity of its components. Curated by the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), it is an essential part of the Festival’s multi-disciplinary and eclectic arts programming. The festival-within-a-festival is one of the nation’s best-attended short format events, drawing thousands of filmgoers, filmmakers, and industry professionals every year. These snack-sized shorts satisfy a range of palates, from documentaries and family-friendly fare to more mature material and films made in the Pacific Northwest. Jury and Audience Award-winning films from SIFF are also highlighted.
Bumbershoot’s Spectacles can take many forms, but no matter the genre or discipline these outdoor attractions are creative while pushing boundaries of typical exhibition and performance spaces, exposing and engaging the festival public to a range of artistic expressions. This year, additions to this programming include the Seattle Sounders FC Sound Wave marching band as well as Gerard Minakawa’s Bamboo DNA — a bamboo structure directly inspired by the iconic Hagia Sophia temple in Istanbul, Turkey that festivalgoers will be able to walk through and marvel at.
