Desert Hearts is calling its devout followers back to the wilderness this spring with another edition of their intimate techno house gathering March 27-30th. With two years and five festivals behind them, this tribe of California visionaries continues to win hearts, minds and dancefloors, with their mantra of ‘House, Techno, Love’.
Dubbed “Burning Man on a smaller scale with less rules, one stage, an everybody loves everybody mentality, and 72 hours of non-stop house and techno,” by Death and Taxes, this event is nothing short of intriguing.
Held just outside San Diego, the Desert Hearts experience is deeply rooted in the spirit of Burning Man, yet ridden with the sounds of Berghain. The combination of radical self-reliance, remote locations and forward thinking musical programming has earned them an incredibly devoted fan base, and plaudits from media outlets ranging from The Wall Street Journal to Vice to Resident Advisor.
Past headliners have included Tiefschwarz, DJ T., Fur Coat, Tim Green, Francesca Lombardo, Shaun Reeves, Noir, Thugfucker and many more. What makes this festival all the more special, though, is their continued support for their tightly-knit Desert Hearts DJ crew consisting of Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Porkchop, Marbs, & Deep Jesus. Desert Hearts and crew even launched their label in 2014, Desert Hearts Records, and began moving beyond the wilderness with their roving City Hearts events.
It’s festivals like these that really get us excited. Seeing so much passion and devotion poured into an event makes us all warm and fuzzy. Mixmag describes them well calling Desert Hearts “The forefront of groups pushing for more liberated, less commercially-driven festival vibes.” Hell. Yah.
