Hugo Pierre Leclercq, or better known by his stage name Madeon, is a French music producer from Nantes, France. This talented young artist started producing music with only 11 years, at that time under the name “Deamon”. Later on this name turned into “Madeon” which is an anagram of his old nickname. The breakthrough came with his track called “Pop Culture”, viewed almost 30 million times on Youtube. His latest composition wears the name “Home” and serves as an introduction to his upcoming debut album called “Adventure”, due out March 31. It also is the first song the young producer has released featuring his own vocals.
After listening to his newest track and without any expectations, all I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised. A different, refreshing sound permeates the entire song. Madeon has not given up the electronic style, but still, this song is something completely different from the EDM we are used to listen everywhere. With only 20 years of age, he has already created his own original style and sound, making it easy to recognize his tracks. We are looking forward to listening to the whole album, hoping to hear more quality melodies like this.
Madeon explains how “Home” was written and describes his creative process as “this thing that I do frequently, where I lock myself in the studio for 24 hours. I wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee, start a clock and I have a countdown of 24 hours. I don’t leave the room and I have to write three original songs from scratch. It’s very, very intense, very physical, because sleep deprivation kicks in. Sleep deprivation shuts down a few sections of my brain, it makes me feel like I’m floating. It’s the closest thing to drugs that I would do. I start doing things and it’s no longer ideas going through the brain to the body to communicate with the studio, it’s like all melting together a little. I like it, actually. And it’s very intense emotionally, because you can never stop, you have to work non-stop. The last track on the album, Home, was written that way. 16th or 17th hour, sleep deprivation had started to impact, I was just in that exhaustion phase and I started feeling incredibly vulnerable and incapable of writing music. So I wrote a song about that kind of feeling, about giving up. And because I was alone in the studio and I have to finish it, I sang on it myself: I’m not a singer, but it was interesting and touching to have those fragile, vulnerable vocals on there.”
