The year 2020 it’s all about comebacks.
As of this moment we can look forward to at least three major returns this year:
- Rage Against the Machine
- My Chemical Romance
- Dunkaroos
Talk about nostalgia.
But on a more serious note, Okeechobee is back from its, albeit short hiatus, after skipping the 2018 festival season. The comeback is primed to be as extravagant as ever now that some veteran leadership has taken the reigns.
Insomniac acquired the Southern Florida festival in June, which means the festival’s production value is about go through the roof. The production company is known for the grandest of EDM festivals, Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival.
Since Pasquale Rotella started the company in 1993, Insomniac has spread from festivals, to record labels, to radio, and beyond. With Okeechobee being run by the man, myth, and legend himself, we are anticipating wild performances, larger than life art installations, and by far the best festival comeback of 2020.
When it comes to Okeechobee essentials, the POWOW is an absolute MUST SEE. Okee veterans have experienced this stage shared by artists they could only imagine in their wildest dreams. The festival curates the POWOW, which is a super jam set lead by some of the biggest names in music.
Looking back at the inaugural year, it is insane to fathom that the POWOW stage was shared by Miguel, Win Butler of Arcade Fire, John Oates, George Porter Jr., Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford, Tom Morello, Chris Karns (Pretty Lights), Zigaboo, Modeliste, and Kamasi Washington, with special appearances by Mac Miller & Skrillex. This year, the festival recently revealed that the 2020 POWOW would be led by headliner Vampire Weekend & Friends.
Who could the friends be?
Literally anyone but, we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Mumford & Sons, Big Gigantic & Griz share the stage as they have before.
Any other guesses?
Last but not least, this line-up has depth! Okeechobee didn’t just want to comeback and be like everyone else. Their goal is to curate a unique and diverse musical experience that you can’t get anywhere else.
Be sure to catch Kaskade on Friday, given he just announced his release of REDUX 004. Saturday must-sees are Clairo & Bob Moses, two acts that have quietly been taking the festival scene by storm and will only be rising to the top of line-ups as the year goes on. Griz will be rounding out the festival in true funky fashion of course and there still remains the mystery if he will be performing with his live band or doing a DJ set. Either way, you don’t want to miss it!
