Outlook is one of the world’s most pioneering festivals and a leader in bass music and sound system culture. Returning for its 8th season in the majestic Fort Punta Christo on September 2-6, 2015, it unites the very best artists across dub, reggae, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, garage, grime, dubstep, house, techno and electronica on the dazzling Adriatic coast in Croatia. Jurassic 5 and Roni Size Reprazent Live will be opening the festival, with one very special headlining guest to be announced soon!
The festival’s Opening Concert is set in a jaw-dropping 2000-year old Roman Amphitheatre in Pula, a majestic environment which blends lovingly preserved ancient architecture with cutting-edge production and sound to create a truly sublime experience. Fully open air, hemmed in by looming walls and arches, and sloped steps which provide amazing views from any spot, the Amphitheatre is a mind-blowing setting which will showcase an evening of stellar sounds on Wednesday 2nd September.
Jurassic 5’s full crew will be in full effect at the opening show: Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7even, DJ Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist have been hailed as one of the world’s most influential hip-hop super groups from its golden era. Having reformed in 2013 after a 7 year hiatus they have injected new life to their indelibly iconic music.
The groundbreaking drum and bass band Roni Size Reprazent Live are widely regarded as one of the most important live electronic music acts of the past two decades; their debut album New Forms won the Mercury Music Prize in 1997, and they are set to release a Roni Size Reprazent album later this year.
Having built a reputation on consistently delivering one of the most energetic and exhilarating live shows to emerge from the UK bass music scene, the Gentleman’s Dub Club wowed The Harbour Stage at Outlook last year, and now take their raucous set to the Amphitheatre.
Finally, the Trojan Sound System are an institution in British Sound System culture. A legendary team of selectors and vocalists, they represent the most influential reggae and Ska record label in history, covering Ska, Roots, Dub, Dancehall and British sound system culture.
At Outlook Festival, Run The Jewels’ live show is pure intoxicating energy as they headline, fresh from a world tour and topping everyone’s 2014 best album charts. They are joined by the Flatbush Zombies; these guys are one of the hottest new hip-hop acts around, championed by Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era. Boy Better Know – aka JME and his brother Skepta, alongside Jammer, Frisco, Shorty & DJ Maximum – bring their dazzling action to Pula, whilst BBK founder Wiley also performs a solo live set too. Pete Rock is joined by some of New York’s finest rappers and producers, Jeru The Damaja and The Beatnuts.
Digital Mystikz’s Mala and Coki return with their heavy dubstep; festival favourite DJ EZ is back this summer to absolutely smash it, and representing the new breed in a thriving scene is Mumdance and Gilles Peterson’s breakthrough artist of 2014, Little Simz. On the drum and bass tip, Dutch electronic trio Noisia bring their celebrated sounds to the festival; Goldie is one of the scene’s champions and he remains an acclaimed icon; fellow long-term player and Exit Records founder dBridge remains right at the fore of everything great.
Legend doesn’t even come close to describing dancehall and Reggae vocalist of immense repute, Cutty Ranks, and Outlook would not be the same without the luminary David Rodigan, who is joined by “BBC Sound of 2015” artist Protoje & The Indiggnation, one of Reggae’s new leading lights, whilst festival regulars Mungo’s hifi and Iration Steppas both return to lay it down extra heavy. Mount Kimbie touch down for a special DJ set, offering a different dynamic. Many more names have also been revealed, with more to come.
The festivals sublime Fort Punta Christo setting is unlike anything else, with myriad spaces including a moat, dungeon, garden, boats, beach and more, and two live stages in the harbour and forest. From the incredible setting perched above the dazzling Adriatic Sea, to its ground-shaking rigs from Mungo’s HiFi scoop rig to Void’s Incubus system, Martin Audio’s Longbow and the legendary NCA Soundsystem, it’s a thrilling adventure under the sun and stars.
It’s never too early to start planning for such an amazing festival, tickets are on sale now for £140 (boat parties are extra). Stay tuned for more lineup announcements and updates!
