What sets Reggae on the River apart from so many other festivals is its tremendous heart. This event arose in response to a need that a group of progressive, young pioneers saw in the 1970s for a community center, a cultural hub that would provide artful, educational and social services to their new home in rural, Southern Humboldt County.
Thirty years later, Reggae on the River is still the primary fundraiser for the Mateel Community Center.When you buy a ticket to Reggae and when you spend money in the concert bowl satisfying a craving on food or drinks, you are directly benefiting our local non-profits- our fire departments, our schools, our radio station, our environmental organizations. Not only is your presence at Reggae a blessing to the land you dance upon and to all those you’ll meet here, but you’re supporting a rural community of people who are otherwise underserved and overlooked by government aid and support- just the way we like it!
