Rock in Rio USA made its official U.S. debut this weekend in Las Vegas, welcoming 82,000 attendees in the festival’s first weekend. The legendary music festival, celebrating its 30th anniversary worldwide, brought some of the biggest names in music including No Doubt, Metallica, Maná and Linkin Park to the Las Vegas Strip for its inaugural U.S. outing.
“It has always been our dream to bring Rock in Rio to the U.S. and it is truly amazing to see this dream become a reality,” said Roberto Medina, founder of Rock in Rio. “We’ve felt so welcomed during the process of creating the Las Vegas edition of the festival and are grateful to have celebrated the debut with such a great crowd. We look forward to doing it all over again next weekend.”
The first day of the festival featured an incredible closing set by headliner No Doubt with hits like “It’s My Life,” “Hey Baby,” and an acoustic mini-set that included a version of “Simple Kind of Life.” Rounding out the Main Stage lineup for Friday were Maná, The Pretty Reckless, Smallpools and Cirque Du Soleil, which opened the Main Stage with a performance created especially for Rock in Rio USA. The Mercedes-Benz Evolution Stage welcomed high-energy performances by Foster the People, Gary C lark Jr., Theophilus London and Saints of Valory.
On Saturday, fans rushed through the gates in excitement of headliner Metallica’s highly anticipated return to Las Vegas. The iconic rock band didn’t disappoint with a set including “One,” “Turn the Page” and “Enter Sandman.” Other Main Stage performers included Linkin Park, Rise Against and Hollywood Undead. The Mercedes-Benz Evolution Stage also delivered a solid lineup with performances by Deftones, Sepultura feat. Steve Vai, Coheed and Cambria and Of Mice and Men.
The three themed Rock Streets were heavily trafficked both days as guest experienced the best of Brazil, the U.S. and U.K. with street performances, food and unique cultural experiences. Some of the most applauded performances were Spock Frevo Orquestra, the Street Dance Crew and Pepeu Gomes. Attractions including the zip line operated to capacity all day while more than 2,000 festivalgoers enjoyed the view, 64 feet high above the Main Stage.
