Bumbershoot was established in 1971 as a city festival, and over the years has grown into one of America’s most respected annual celebrations of arts and culture. Not only are the performers some of the best artists internationally, but the additional entertainment such as, Comedy, Words & Ideas, Theatre, Film, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Spectacles, Youngershoot, showcases the rich and diverse talent in the Pacific Northwest.

For 45 years, Bumbershoot has served as Seattle’s annual end-of-summer bash — a celebration of creativity, art, and music held beneath the iconic Space Needle in downtown Seattle. In addition to the abundance of changes in this year’s festival is the inclusion of two main stage locations (Memorial Stadium and Key Arena) and a new non-profit sponsor in the Center for Infectious Disease Research.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray says, “This year’s event reflects new energy, new venues, and a fantastic lineup. Bumbershoot exemplifies Seattle’s urban creativity.”

Rob Thomas, Vice President of AEG Live Pacific Northwest is learning from the past and taking the best of previous Bumbershoot producers to push the vision into the future. “Our team is thrilled to be a part of the 2015 festival, and the 45th year is going to be an amazing celebration,” he says.

Many people come together to produce one of the city’s most anticipated events every year.

One Reel and AEG Live are teaming up again to make the Festival happen this year. One Reel founder Norm Langill says, “Before directing and presenting Teatro Zinzanni, I had the great of honor of producing the Festival for many decades. While I haven’t been involved for several years, I was happy to hear that One Reel was teaming up with AEG Live again. Bumbershoot is part of our creative city’s DNA.”

“We are proud to be part of the team that mounts such an epic event every year,” says Seattle Center Director Robert Nellams. “We look forward to the success of this extraordinary urban arts experience long into the future.”

“Bumbershoot is part of the heart and soul of our city, so I’m thrilled to be working with a team who treasures and values Bumbershoot’s unique character and shares the same vision to make it beautiful and inspiring for all who attend,” says Heather Smith, Interim Executive Director of long-time producer One Reel.

The Center for Infectious Disease Research (formerly Seattle BioMed) is the official non-profit sponsor, and as part of the partnership, AEG Live will donate a portion of each ticket sold to the organization and encourage fans to do the same, helping spread global health awareness.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with both AEG Live and Bumbershoot,” says Edward Jenkins, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Center for Infectious Disease Research, “Bumbershoot is a Seattle institution as is the Center for Infectious Disease Research – we’ve both been a part of the community for nearly 40 years. And, AEG and its artists have a rich history of supporting non-profits all across the country. We couldn’t be happier to pilot this new type of partnership with them and we look forward to their support in our mission of finding cures for some of the world’s most deadly infectious diseases that claim the lives of nearly 14 million people every year.”
