Lollapalooza announced today that Lollapalooza Berlin will be happening at Tempelhof Airport, September 12-13, 2015. Berlin will be the first European location for the iconic festival, joining Chile, Brazil and Argentina as its fourth international venue. Lollapalooza is being brought to Berlin by Festival Republic, the team behind the legendary Reading and Leeds Festivals, and Melt! Booking.
“We have very carefully considered bringing our festival to Europe and frankly, were intimidated by the rich festival history Europe has had for 50 years. Berlin feels like it is ready to explode as a city and cultural center and we want to be there to grow with the city,” said Marc Geiger, head of William Morris Endeavor’s music division.
Lollapalooza’s original location in the United States has always been known for its music, food, art and social responsibility. Festival producers plan to bring this energy to its Berlin fest. “Over two decades since its inception, Lollapalooza is more than ready to break new ground and bring the experience to new audiences, offering not just music, but fashion, food, plus an environmental awareness that is so important in the future of music festivals. Working with C3 and Melt! Booking to bring the Lollapalooza brand to Europe gives me great pleasure in not only building upon my relationship with these global partners but allows me to return to the iconic Tempelhof site in September,” said Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic.
As Lollapalooza continues to plant flags around the world, founder (and Jane’s Addiction frontman) Perry Ferrell watches as each festival learns from and collaborates with the other countries. From the cultural exchange of artists, to the sharing of ideas around sustainability and social responsibility the expansion strengthens and enriches each individual festival. “I’m extremely excited to finally bring Lollapalooza across the pond to Europe. Berlin’s energy, vibrant art, fashion and music scenes are a mirror reflection of what Lollapalooza is all about and I can’t wait to share in this cultural exchange,” said Farrell.
While the official lineup hasn’t been announced yet, Lollapalooza’s 2015 dates have been announced.
