New Years in Tahoe? Yes, please!
You could give me front row tickets to the ball drop in Times Square right now and, guess what? I’d still be heading west. Who wants to hear outdated pop stars perform outdated “hits” all night when there’s a flurry of must-see artists gathering in the winter wonderland of northern California?
MTV’s SnowGlobe Music Festival is not the company’s first foray into the music festival scene, but it is definitely their most valiant effort in recent history. Since acquiring SnowGlobe in 2018, MTV and Viacom have pledged a significant expansion for the event and their overall involvement with live music. This includes better artists, more dates, and likely more festivals around the U.S. and beyond. From the looks of this year’s lineup, MTV is bringing together the best of EDM and hip-hop to shake things up this winter.
Skrillex leads the bill as one of the most reliable artists for this sort of event. Sonny is no stranger to New Year’s festivals, having headlined more than his fair share in recent years. He’ll be pulling one of the biggest crowds of the weekend, so be prepared to show up early if you plan on being close to the stage.
At the other end of the EDM spectrum, it looks as though Fisher will be performing in one of his first major headlining slots at SnowGlobe. How well will 2018’s rookie of the year hold his own on the big stage? With the festival run he’s had this year, chances are the crowd will be losing it.
MTV is bringing the funk with the darkness to Lake Tahoe when it comes to electronic music. If you’re one for theatrics, Gigantic Nghtmre is destined to be a spectacle. Big Gigantic and Nghtmre are well known for their dynamic live performances and, together, there won’t be a single person in the crowd who can resist the urge to dance. Meanwhile, Griz will be taking the funk to a whole different level with his signature sax tracks before it’s time to get down and dirty with Tchami x Malaa.
Now before you start going into full-on rave mode, you can’t forget to show some love for hip-hop. Bay Area OG, E-40 will be performing as well as Ramona Park’s young legend, Vince Staples. Neither set will disappoint if you’re in the mood for some chill west coast beats and clever wordplay.
If youre looking for something a bit more lyrical, be sure to check out Dreamville Records rising stars, EarthGang. The Atlanta based duo has been drawing a lot of attention this year from their role on the Revenge of the Dreamers project. So much so, that they are already being compared to another legendary ATL duo, Outkast.
Feeling more adventurous? Then we have one last recommendation for you. An explanation won’t do him justice, and it’s likely to be the weirdest set you see all weekend. However, there’s something supremely talented about this artist, and it’s hard not to get sucked in by his performance. For your consideration…JPEGMAFIA.
SnowGlobe Music Festival 2019 will take place December 29 – December 31 in South Lake Tahoe. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
