MUTEK Barcelona is preparing for its ninth season! The next edition takes place from March 7th to the 10th in 2018.
The MUTEK festival in Barcelona has finally begun planning the next adventure after a lively and successful eighth edition. This year will include multiple days and exhibition spaces distributed throughout the city. The program will feature premieres, national debuts, new collaborations, spectacular audiovisual presentations and, as always, with an emphasis on electronic live performances that emphasize and celebrate contemporary creation.

As a matter of fact, this year you can expect MUTEK to present special projects of Canadian and Quebecois artists, international debuts and exhibitions of national and local talent. Expect more details in the coming weeks. This adventure is dedicated to the intersections between art, music and technology, and to create dialogue and build community connections. 2017 was full of new and international projects; the creativity of Barcelona was featured in the 18th edition of MUTEK in Montreal as part of the project Inter_Connect that was dedicated to four global cities. Throughout the day and night open BCN talent was offered through a program of activities including lectures and performances.
Expanding The Experience MUTEK
MUTEK returns in hopes to expand its footprint annual events with the series of events DIGI_LAB by Mazda focused on visual arts, technology and conferences. November 18th will be the first event of the season. British artist Graham Dunning will arrive with his kinetic sculptures and spinning techno and mechanical performances. The series continues on January 20th, February 8th, and March 9th during the festival.
Graham Dunning
Furthermore, Graham Dunning is a scientific DIY, installative musical artist and rebel. He is obsessed with dust, scratches, decomposition of cultural artifacts and the dismantling of techno. Using a variety of media, including tapes, Dubplates, field recordings and electronic devices, Graham generates a variety of styles. He is best know for what he calls the mechanical techno. This technique includes tracks constructed from vinyl and loops created by stacking Dubplates adulterated in a single turntable and using electrical contacts to activate instruments from synthesizers and cowbells to woofers and extracted from speaker systems.
The Call for Artists Living in Barcelona Opens
All in all, national and local artists are the heart and soul of every MUTEK Barcelona edition. Therefore, the festival opens its annual call for proposals for live performances, audiovisual presentations and installations. Barcelona artist can send there projects by email to: [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2017.
*MUTEK is a platform with special emphasis on electronic live performances so it will not consider DJ Mixes.
