On September 1, Ellen Allien’s Nost LP gets a second-take with the release of Nost RMXS [Pt. 1]. The original LP, which became available earlier this spring, blended nostalgia from Allien’s 20-year career with her musical vision of the future. By fusing classic Berlin techno with cotemporary synths, the Nost LP brought about a number of impressed fans and reviewers.
Now, Allien’s seventh solo EP is receiving its first batch of commissioned remixes. Each mix, while staying true to the original’s nostalgic texture, adds something fresh and personal from the remixer’s perspective. Part 1 features reworks of “Call Me” and “Mind Journey” from Emmanuel Top, K-Hand, Skudge, and Rod.
The first remix of “Call Me” comes by way of French veteran DJ, Emmanuel Top. With over 20-years of experience churning out acid and techno cuts, Emmanuel Top is sure to inject a bit of his classic knowledge into Allien’s “Call Me.”
The second “Call Me” rework is presented by Detroit powerhouse, K-Hand. As one of the first in her city to partner with Warp Records, K-Hand is guaranteed to bring that Detroit techno fire to this Allien remix.
Next, Rod aka Benny Rodrigues puts his own spin on Allien’s “Mind Journey” track. Originally from Holland, Rod’s encyclopedic knowledge of music acts as the basis for his imaginative reworks and productions.
Plus, “Mind Journey” receives a second remix by Swedish duo, Skudge. With double the remix power, Skudge have created reworks for a slew of artists on a variety of imprints, including Drumcode, Fear of Flying, and Night Slugs.
