Ellen Allien Releases ‘Take a Stand’ EP / ‘A lot of people say that Techno isn’t political, but why not?’ – Ellen Allien

The Techno-sphere superstar Ellen Allien is announcing her debut release with Boddika’s Nonplus imprint, which endowed this solo EP with a totally different aura.

Longstanding at a brave front, Ellen Allien once again seasoned her meticulous music production with her liberal and forward-thinking values, whipping all the upholders through loops and beats that are filled with passion. Her already accomplished skill set manifests in well-designed layers and the perfect amount of repetitions, the intense emotional tension and rhythmic beats will only make you swoon again.“My own history and experiences in the Techno scene inspired me to motivate people to stand up for what they think, for their opinions and rights. A lot of people say that Techno isn’t political, but why not? It can be political of course.” –  Ellen Allien

With the deep boom of drumbeats, The title track ‘Take A Stand,’ is sending a clear message to the world. It is both a thundering call to action and a love letter to the unifying power of rave culture. While its lyrics may seem vague at first “take a stand for or against what?” they unravel their mystery while the track unfolds gradually. Starting off as a sparse basement banger, ‘Take A Stand’ slowly escalates into an acidic anthem before subtly changing its course once more towards the end.  Over the course of ten and a half minutes, Ellen Allien revives the cheerful optimism of the original techno revolution while positioning herself against the joylessness inherent to so much techno these days. This is a revolution you can dance to.

On the b-side, ‘Trigger’ takes us into an equally hypnotizing trip down the wormhole of contemporary rave culture, dose us with elation and intoxication the way catnip attracts the kittens. Combining a hard-hitting groove with a muffled, bouncing acid bassline it will have basements and big rooms like dripping with sweat.

On ‘Flying  Objects,’ Ellen  Allien throws out tickets that fly you from your mortal body into the infinite universe, uses  her  voice  once  more,  this  time  to  round  off  what  could  just  well  be  the  official  musical  manifesto  for  what  she  usually  refers  to “space  techno”  –  a  colourful,  futurist  statement  that  leaves  no  ass  unshaken.

Behold, South America! here comes a feast to all your senses, Ellen Allien is heading out to a tour for you on August 23, at Salón Amador, Medellín; August 24, at Mission Club, Cali; and August 25 at Caos, Campinas!
