San Francisco’s favorite music festival, Outside Lands, announced its information on this year’s loved attraction, Gastromagic. The festival is coming up on August 5-7 in Golden Gate Park. GastroMagic consists of a stage where food, comedy, music, breakdancing, and cocktails collide in magical performances. To view the schedule, click here.
What to Expect at GastroMagic
GastroMagic is an incredibly unique space where reality is and the expected are left at the door. Upon entrance into the area located in McLaren Pass, visitors join a magical party. The fun is located right next to Baconland. Local comedians, breakdancing and breakdowns are only part of the entertainment.
There will also be demonstrations of food waste turning into culinary magic. Additionally, there will performances including DJ sets by Jillinaire of Major Lazor, Big Boi, A devotion to the police from Ra Ra Riot’s alter ego cover band, shows from A Humiliating Kick in the Crotch, and a Prince tribute.
Chris Cosentino will host all the performance in a role of “Master of Culinary Wonder.” Other local gastronomy stars to expect are Melissa King, Jon Shook, Stephanie Izard, Matt Jennings, Vinny Dotolo, and Stuart Brioza. Popular bay area eateries including Bar Tartine, Guittard Chocolate, Humphry Slocombe, Namu Gaji, Woodhosue Fish Co. and Belcampo Meat Co. will also have a presence in GastroMagic.

Whats New
New to this year’s GastroMagic schedule is a greater emphasis of the art of cocktails. Mixologist Jan Danger from Mother of Pearl’s in New York will present her famous Shark Eye. DJ Jauz will DJ during this fun event. Padrecito will host a Blood Mary party, Sunday Blood Mary Sunday. Music of a U2 cover band setting the soundtrack to this bash.

ChefsFeed will present a Culinary Olympics Throwdown, as an ode to the upcoming Summer Olympics. CUESA’s Trash Talk Redux with Bar Tartine, Calavera, 20th Century Cafe
and Namu Gaji

Trash has never tasted this good. CUESA’s very own Marcy Coburn will guide San Francisco star chefs Cortney Burns, Sophina Uong & Michelle Polzine through an Iron Chef-style competition to create a winning masterpiece from food waste. Using discarded items from Outside Lands’ favorite food vendors, along with some of the ugliest produce the city has to offer, the chefs will attempt true culinary alchemy. DJ David Lee, one half of hip-hop duo Golden Age (and co-owner of Namu Gaji) will be keeping the kitchen hot with a tasty trash fire DJ set.

Members of Ra Ra Riot will be performing as A Humiliating Kick in the Crotch, their brilliantly named Police cover band alter ego. A host of Bay Area comedians join together to roast, toast, and broil three time “James Mustache Award” winner, “Chef Kale Hendrix.” Featuring searing burns from Kyle Kinane, Kaseem Bentley, Krista Fatka, and Clare O’Kane, the show will be hosted by San Fran’s own “adorably self-deprecating” Paco Romane. As the comedians put Hendrix to the test, SF’s Chef Richie Nakano will be roasting a dish of his very own.

New York City’s spirited mixologist Jane Danger of Mother of Pearl will craft her signature whiskey Shark Eye cocktail before your eyes. Fierce competitors – to name just a few, Matt Jennings, Jose Enrique and Gabriel Rucker will give Jo Firestone the difficult task of naming the winner after seeing their mastery skills. With her decision, we will finally know whether it’s truly time for us all to move to Canada.
