Derek Vincent Smith – aka Pretty Lights – blends the smooth sounds of old school funk and hip-hop with a next generation style that defies categorization with his new single Rainbows and Waterfalls. Shuggie Otis’ 1971 classic “Strawberry Letter 23” as the foundation of the track adds a reminiscence atmosphere towards the past. Not long ago was Pretty Lights’ last release Only Yesterday back in March 2016. This solo effort hopes to represent a return to form for the Grammy-nominated producer. Rick Rubin even called Pretty Lights “the face and voice of the new American electronic music scene.”

Smith has always had a reputation for innovation in the studio. Yet, his fresh approach to music has been equally prominent on stage. He found a way to turn his electronic music shows into fully improvisational experiences with the Pretty Lights Live project. It is a unique vision that is brought to life with the help of Alvin Ford Jr. (drums), Chris Karns (turntables), Borahm Lee (keys, and Brandom Butler (keys). These musicians have backed Smith in concert and have exceeded expectations since the summer of 2016. They make sure every performance is a unique adventure and no song ever sounds the same twice.
