SHATTERED SUN From Texas Oil Fields to Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival

Shattered-Sun1

My music festival DNA definitely revolves around Metal and Rock. That’s why I have never missed a Mayhem Fest since its inception in 2008. I get to rediscover my old metal heroes and discover new metal heroes. This morning I read the initial press about this year’s Mayhem Fest attendance and lack of A-list headliners. I’m incredibly disappointed in these media outlets that seem clueless about a music festivals core essence, which is discovering new music. Where would Five Finger Death Punch or Machine Head be without the Mayhem Fest? And let’s not forget progressive metal legends TOOL who got their start at Lallapalooza.

On that note, I feel FestPop discovered our new metal heroes at this year’s Mayhem Fest. Shattered Sun killed it on the Victory Records Stage Sunday, June 27th, the second stop of 26 Mayheym Fest shows. Shattered Sun is a six-piece metal band from the south Texas oil town of Alice, whose core formation began with the three members who shared common history and contributions to the live music scene in their hometown. Guitarist, Daniel Trejo, and drummer, Robert Garza, bring song structure and arrangement to the basis of their sound while lead vocalist, Marcos Leal is responsible for the song hooks you can’t ignore. They began moving forward by incorporating bassist, Joseph Guajardo to complete the rhythm section and keyboardist, Henry Garza to develop a more signature sound. The line-up was finalized with lead guitarist, Jessie Santos to fulfill their desired melodic, yet heavy sound.

In 2014 Shattered Sun signed with Breaking Bands LLC, an all-star management team led by Adrenaline PR CEO Maria Ferrero, Megaforce Records founder Jon Zazula (known for launching the careers of Metallica and Anthrax), and Chuck Billy, the voice of legendary thrash metal titans Testament.  The band signed with Victory Records shortly after and the rest is about to make history.

What I really like about these guys is how they are pushing the limits with ripping speed combined with a tremendous amount of musicality to thrust their messages of positivity to the next level. After Mayhem Fest, Shattered Sun will accompany Soulfly on their 2015 We Sold Our Souls To Metal Tour. Soilwork & Decapitated will also join the tour. The tour is scheduled for a 27 concert trek starting on September 30 & ending in Albuquerque, NM on October 30.
