About Sting’s New Album, 57th and 9th

57th and 9th, produced by Martin Kierszenbaum, offers a wide variety of Sting’s music and songwriting styles. Its sounds range from the anthemic “50,000,” to the fierce Road Warrior-style imagery of “Petrol Head,” to the rough tone of the guitar-led first single, “I Can’t Stop Thinking About You.” The artist also recorded with his long time collaborators, the talented Dominic Miller (guitar) and Colaiuta (drums). In addition, other incredible musicians accompanied Sting’s vocals, including Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Guns n’ Roses) and guitarist Lyle Workman with backing vocals by the San Antonio-based Tex-Mex band The Last Bandoleros.

57th and 9th gets its name from a street corner in Manhattan. Sting crossed this corner every day on his way to recording the album in the studios in Hell’s Kitchen. The artist claims there is a theme in the album’s lyrics of motion and travel. Furthermore, the entire project came together quickly and impulsively: taking only a few weeks to complete from start to finish!
